Fully synthetic extracellular veiscles and viruses

The scientific community is increasingly turning its attention to subcellular structures. Among these, extracellular vesicles (EVs) like exosomes have garnered significant interest for their potential as therapeutic and diagnostic tools. Yet, the inherent heterogeneity of these structures, coupled with the challenges in their production, purification, and engineering, can be daunting.

Our solution? A patented, high-throughput droplet-based assembly technology. This innovation allows us to create fully synthetic liposome analogs that not only mirror the vesicular structure of EVs but also emulate their functions, including therapeutic capabilities. These synthetic structures offer enhanced controllability and precision at the molecular level, and they’re already making waves as internal standards and controls in EV assays.

Drawing parallels between EVs and viruses, some theories suggest a shared evolutionary origin. Building on this connection, we’ve extended our technology to craft synthetic virions. These virions, with their defined molecular properties, are proving invaluable as standards for functional assays, be it neutralization tests or avenues in drug delivery.
